New platform will provide for multiple remote vital signs monitoring apps.
June 29, 2016
By: Business Wire
Loon Medical Inc., a developer of personal location and health status remote monitoring technology for caregivers, is adding cloud-based glucose monitoring to its CareSentinel product line. The SensaCare glucose monitoring application, licensed from Applivate LLC, of New Haven, Conn., will enable patients to upload data from their meters via Bluetooth to the CareSentinel Cloud creating a comprehensive view for caregivers and healthcare professionals to better understand the patient’s glycemic condition. “We at Applivate are thrilled to be working with the Loon Medical team,” said John Fitzpatrick, co-founder and CEO of Applivate. “Integrating ShugaTrak and CareSentinel will produce a system that is greater than the sum of its parts. CareSentinel’s leading edge location and alert technology will now be complemented by ShugaTrak’s leading edge technology for moving blood glucose measurements from the meter to the cloud. The combined system will offer care providers unprecedented insight into the real-time status of those for whom they are responsible.” SensaCare is a rebranding of Applivate’s ShugaTrak blood glucose app and cloud application and it serves as a platform for connecting multiple vital signs monitoring outputs to the CareSentinel remote monitoring product. “One of the cornerstones of the CareSentinel system is to provide caregivers the tools to reduce hospital re-admissions,” said Keith D. Ignotz, chairman of Loon Medical. “We are pleased to announce the license of this important technology for our product suite which will allow our customers to measure and track a patient’s glucose with the CareSentinel system.” Using the SensaCare platform, additional monitoring applications for CareSentinel to be rolled out in the coming months include heart rate, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, weight, and video for remote viewing by the caregiver on their tablets or smart phones. These features will be added to the currently available patient alert, and the capability to remotely monitor patient bed or chair occupancy, incontinence, toilet use and wandering. “Recent studies indicate that protocols that promote glucose control based on monitoring improved outcomes while limiting the incidence of hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic complications,” said Joel Douglas, chief technology officer of Loon Medical. “As we expand the capabilities of the SensaCare product it will provide caregivers and healthcare professionals with a simple means of reviewing data vital to the care of patients with Alzheimer’s, congestive heart failure, heart conditions, diabetes, and respiratory conditions providing a view into the overall health of their patients and loved ones.” Loon Medical Inc. manufactures the CareSentinel personal home monitoring system for caregivers and healthcare professionals. CareSentinel uses Bluetooth technology to monitor a suite of sensors to deliver instant insight on patient location and physiological status through the CareSentinel App for iOS or Android devices. The Tolland, Conn.-based company holds more than 96 patents and has been developing and bringing medical devices to the market for more than 30 years.
